And
Two Shall Become One
By
Jeannette Hille
The Virginia Street
Church has witnessed some rather “out there” weddings before. We've
had a teepee ceremony, a dog ring-bearer, a fire engine as the bride
and groom's getaway car and more. On a rainy day in June, my daughter
Barbara and her fiancé Tony, got married in our little church. A
beautiful, traditional wedding with gowns and tuxes—all the things a
young girl dreams of. However...lined up outside the church were a
dozen or more "Harleys" ready to take the bridal party on their
“traditional” tour around town (No cans or streamers on the bikes.)
The bride and attendants changed their long skirts for jeans and away
they went. It was quite a sight. Fortunately, God blessed them with
sunshine. Congratulations to Barbara and Tony Sainio!
A Special Day in
June
On
Sunday June 11th, 2006 our church service included communion,
recognition of the Sunday School children, and a reception of new
members into the church.
We welcome Dawn
Anderson, Nancy Hanway, and Cecil North as new members of the Virginia
Street Swedenborgian Church.
After this special
service, a picnic was held in the church yard amid all of the flowers
planted by members of the house and grounds committee. It was truly a
“fun-packed” day.
That Was
One Huge Sale
Our church put on a gigantic
yard sale on Sat. August 26th, 2006. The weather cooperated and many
helping hands made the sale manageable and very successful.
We also
had a chance to great neighborhood residents and make our presence
visible in the community.
The sale
included everything from furniture to books, toys, clothes, bikes and
nick-knacks. The gigantic sale brought in over $500 to help with church
expenses.
Thanks to everyone that brought
items and who helped with the sale itself.

Welcome!
By Sylvia Lange
This June I went out
to Maryland to welcome my
newest granddaughter, Sadie Sofia . Sadie’s
parents (my son and daughter-in-law Kevin and
Lucy Lange) were married last July in our VSSC.
Sadie was just beginning to smile and show
interest in her exercise mat when I made the trip
over the 4th
of July. It was fun to see her day- by- day development and she seemed
to enjoy falling asleep on my shoulder.
The week after I
returned to Minnesota another son, Kris, and his children, Bekka and
“Buddy” (Kristofer) came to renew friendships with their Minnesota
relatives. We had the equivalent of a week–long family reunion . Each
day featured events for the kids; picnics, art projects, trips to the
Zoo and Children’s Museum, climbing wall, and swim times. Even the meals
included special surprises for the kids to enjoy.
Even though
Minnesota was featuring hot weather that week, no one hesitated
participating in any of the planned events. By Saturday when the
activity focused on climbing the “Big trucks” in a hot open grassy
field, the adults were less enthusiastic. We all look forward to next
summer when Sadie can run around with her cousins and join the fun!
In
case you haven’t heard we have prospective new little ones joining us
this fall. Jacob Driver will help Mom and Dad welcome the new baby into
his life (and toys). Congrats to Heather and Mark Driver!
Bill and Michelle
Nielson are expecting their first baby this November. The Nielsons were
also married in our church and Erik played solo violin for the wedding.
Congrats to both expectant parents! |
